Recently, I experienced an issue during a re installation of the company machine

I was getting sync errors stemming from the mixing of Click-to-Run software with .msi installer software.

So after reinstalling Windows 10,  Office 2016 (.msi) , Visio 2016, Project 2016, I set about to make sure that my Office 365 OneDrive for Business files were syncing in addition to my personal OneDrive, which was already syncing as part of the Windows 10 installation.

I found an interesting thing!  The new OneDrive sync client conflicts with the OneDrive for Business sync client that comes with Office 2016.  It generates this error:

"The server you are trying to access is using an authentication protocol not supported by this version of Office."

Hmmm...

So research led me to this article by the good folks at MS.In particular, section two applied to my situation.

From there, here is the process to install the business OneDrive sync client, on Windows 10, or after the personal OneDrive client is already installed.

  • Exit the OneDrive sync client
  • Download the Deployment Package.
  • Merge the file EnableAddAccounts.reg
  • Launch the OneDrive sync client
  • Right Click the OneDrive icon in the taskbar navigation area, and click Settings
  • Click the Account tba, then [Add a business account]
Seems a little Kludgy, but it does seem to work.
